Hi Everyone,
I've been getting some questions about our Jams that I'd like to answer here.
Q: What's the experience level of the members that attend Jams?:
A: The experience level varies from beginner to experienced. I'm a beginner myself, I started playing in Aug 07. I feel completely comfortable at the jams. Sometimes I keep up, sometimes I don't. I've always learned something from every Jam.
Q: What should I bring to the Jam?
A: Jam hosts provide space and a seat. Some hosts put out a spread of food, some have munchies. If you drink, its always good to bring a 6-pack of something. In my experience, we are nibblers. We're usually too busy playing to eat much (but there are some exceptions to this rule )
Q: When will I get directions to the Jam?
A: Since most of our Jams are hosted by individuals, we have decided not to publicly post addresses. The address to the Jam will be emailed to you a couple of days before the event.
Q: What music will we play?
A: Some Jam hosts will pick a song list and some Jams will be totally improv. If there is a song list, the list will be posted on the message board.
Q: Are other instruments and/or vocalists allowed?
A: Yes! While we are a group that primarily focuses on guitar, we encourage any other musical accompaniment to join and attend events!
Q: Will the Jam be Acoustic, Electric or Both?
A: This is actually a new question for the group. We orginiated as a purely acoustic group. We now support acoustic and electric guitar. Starting now, I will post the type of guitar in the Jam details on the Calendar.
Q: What happens if I 'No Show' a Jam?
A: After 3 'No Show's you will not be able to attend a Jam for 6 months! There are enough reminders that will be sent to you to allow you to change your RSVP to a No. A 'No Show' blocks another member from being able to attend a Jam!
Q: How long do the Jams usually last?
A: 2.5 to 3 hours usually (there have been exceptions where they've lasted longer)
On a purely volunteer basis, for safety purposes, we would like an emergency contact if you plan to attend Jams (name, phone number, email [if possible]). God forbid anything should happen to you while you're at a Jam, but if the unfortunate situation arrises we will be able to contact your loved ones.
In addition, if you would like to be notified if a Jam is cancelled at the last minute (because of weather or other unforseen circumstances) please send me an email with your cell phone #. Click on my photo on the left to send me an email. This information will only be shared with the organizers and no one else. Promise!
Any more questions concerning the Jams? Drop me or an assitant organizer an e-mail! We'll give you an answer pretty quickly.
Steve
